I lost by about 4 cars. We're both Stock, he's lowered but thats make no diff.
Not too good at story telling so here's how I break it down

Excuses (Hey, it's human nature to come with excuses when you lose)
1) My bud, the passenger videotaping is 175 lbs and my friend in the RX had no passenger
2) My top was down.
3) My car has only 1173 km's so engine isn't at it's peak yet.
4) He's had the RX-7 for about a year and I've my stook for about 2 months.
5) He is also the better driver....Can I use this as an excuse????

Having said that, even if I didn't have a passenger, my top was up and my engine was at its peak, I would still lose but just not by 4 car lengths, maybe 2.5. We knew when we went out cruising we would race, but we found a perfect spot to run with no traffic and we decided to go at that instant, thus I didn't have a chance to top up and drop my bud out the car to tape. Oh well, Stock on Stock the RX-7 is faster, no arguing that point.
Next time we are going to swap cars and I'm sure it will be a closer race as he is the better driver. Anyhow, when the engine is more broken in, I'll go him again.

I got my flame proof suit on so go ahead if you really need to.

O.K., here is the pic and the race if you want to check it. BTW, you have to have QuickTime to view the clip. Here is a click to download if you don't already have

Rx-7s are faster cars stock vs stock and modded vs modded....hey you win some and you lose some. At least you tried. Having a passenger does slow a car down a bit, maybe not enough to beat the RX-7, but a difference nonetheless.

You would've done a lot better if your top was up and didn't have a passenger

The passenger makes a difference, but the top makes a HUGE difference. I am guessing you went into 4th, and at that speed, the drag is slowing you down. Not that the above reasons is why you lost, but next time, race with the top up at least....

Shoot, you've only got 700 miles on the car? Its not even close to being fully broken in. Hell, the clutch doesn't even get fully broken in till about 2000 miles in my experience (clamping load actually increases with clutch wear initially).

175 lbs is nothing to sneeze at either. Worth a good 0.2-0.3 seconds in the quarter.

And the top down at high speeds! That will cost you a lot of mph on the straights at a road course, so it will definitely hurt in a drag race.

That said, I think you're right, he still would have beat you, but it would have been a lot closer.

hmmmmm....i just looked at the video. ummmm, i'm assuming you started at a roll from 3rd gear? well, looked at it..either way, here's my opinion. when you started, you ran out the gear you started in (and pulled on him pretty good), then you switched appropriately but THEN you switched AGAIN very quickly! your second SHIFT to whatever gear it was seemed wayyyyyyyy too early. seemed like you weren't really running hard after the initial shift! just looked like that to me. i know the rx7 is faster, but the second shift seemed premature. MIGHT have done a bit better if you didn't (of course, plus the top being down and the 175 dude in the car..hahah)

anyways, you should run out your next gear longer (to redline) if you want to do better!

btw, nice video...very clear, very sharp!

Watch the video again. To me it sounds like he is redlining each gear. It also sounds like he started in a lower gear than 3rd, probably 2nd maybe even 1st. The reason the S2000 got any lead in that video was because the Rx-7 was shifting. Right when they start rolling it's pretty even for 2 seconds or so, and then the Rx-7 shifts and falls back about 1/2 a

He obviously started in 1st...thats why he got the quick jump.....they were rolling at prolly 2omph...he shut it down after just hitting 4th...

Come on, now....
You're right, we started on a first 1st gear roll which IS why I got that jump and shut down a little into 4th. nHobbes, you are also right, I think (can't realy recall) but I think I shifted just a tid to early from 2nd to 3rd but I was definetely redling every gear expect maybe 2nd. Once his car was moving, man it's pretty quick. My shifting wasn't as great as I expected but it will get better as my arm heals from a recent accident.

Nonetheless, I hope you guys enjoyed. I'm a big fan of the RX-7 and am happy with the performance of my bearly broken in S2K with the top down and my muscle head bud as the passenger. I'll run him again soon while he's stock and maybe I can squeeze one out
