Default Castle Combe Track Day Video

I had a track day at Castle Combe on Friday 26th Sept 2008, my first time at this track.

I had a great day and the car is proving great fun, I am still on the original tyres after 13300 miles and the original break pads as well, and that includes three previous track days

Each track day I am getting better and more confidence to push the car, but I know it can go faster with some more skill and balls on my part I was running with normal unleaded which is what I normally run the car on.

Castle Combe Track Day - 1 lap 1:28 time

Another Cayman club member was there with his modified Cayman S - track tyres, stiffened suspension, limited Slip Diff, larger intake plenum, milltek headers and exhaust and softronic ecu with 102BP fuel. He lent his car to an instructor from Bedford who did 1:21 laps

He was using BP 102?? Is he right in the heeed?

I could understand if it was a race car, in an actual race

Car looks great Starlight - I can't see the vid due to work restrictions but i'm off to Coombe in a few weeks so it will be useful for me.

I know he is a bit mad, but the softronic ecu is designed to fully utilise the higher octane, his car is used as a track day toy mainly, nice if you can afford it.

Hopefully you will have a dry day, there were three exiges, they were quick, when i pushed hard I could just about hold on to one of them for half a lap, but he would pull away when he got power down earlier in the corners and eventually pulled away.

Link to the professional photos, I jut uploaded them all, and they took a lot, good value at

Your car sounds great and looked like fun around Combe on the video.

imo fun is more important on trackdays than lap times and I have found instruction invaluable. If you go to Combe with Motorsport Events get a session or 2 of instruction with Ed Moore or Erling Jensen and your lapping will be transformed. It gets a bit more expensive on brakes and tyres though once you start to find the limit! I have found it better to find my own limits before doing any mods - then I know what I want the mods to do to suit my driving style.

Good to see a Cayman S being used as intended!

I had Erling teaching me and it made a good difference to my track times he is also a Porsche specialist and drives a lot of Caymans so was urging me to push harder as he knew the car was more capable

Yep, I generally hold the wheel with my right hand, but not too tightly, the left switches between the gears and the wheel, with palm pressure on the lighter corners and a full grip when tighter corners and when the car was bouncing / skipping over the rough part of the track leading into the rise.

All the instructors have informed that they see no problem with it, as the car is not requiring a fixed 9:3 rigid grip, the looser grip allows me to provide a much softer steering input and maintain a smoother progression through the corners. It also allows you to feel the more subtle car movement through the steering wheel.
