Default Good Mechanic vs Honda

Hey guys,
Took my car into Honda this weekend... thought i was looking at about $500 worth of stuff... 90k mile refresher and maybe a few other things here and there as my clutch was feeling a little funny aslo...

Honda tells me:
I need new left motor mount parts and labor" $335
needs clutch master and slave cylinder parts and labor - $570
Brake fluid changed and labor - $70
CAI valve leaking, causing rpm spikes- didnt quote me
A couple other things that i'm not going to list.
I've already paid $350 for them to do the 90k check and replace rear differential fluid.

Does any of this seem reasonable at all?

I looked at parts online and it seems like most of the cost is in labor
master cylinder - $70
Slave - $55
left motor mounts-- area of $65 or more depending on which I need.
Brake fluid change... $70 to replace?

Could a normal mechanic do these repairs for much cheaper? Or should i always let Honda do these repairs?

cai valve? you mean IAC valve?

if you have a mechanic you trust + who does quality work im sure it'll be much cheaper to take it to him. IF you do go to a mechanic, buy the parts online and give it to him to install, pay only for labor.

honda dealership will always be more expensive

I know plenty of good mechanics that work at Honda Dealers, and plenty of bad ones.

Moving to your local forum so you can get local feedback.

Well, I'm not 100% sure, but i'm quite confident they said CAI valve. I was having some RPM spikes, and they were saying it was because the CAI was not completely sealed in one spot, and a replacement valve would be like $75 installed or something. I have the AEM(I think 2) that goes down and points toward the ground near the foglight duct(if that makes sense)

yeah, pretty sure it is going to be IAC valve like mentioned above. That is the Idle Air Control valve..which basically allows air to bypass the throttle body during idling. This can cause RPM spikes if it is either damaged or clogged.

That brake fluid is an upsale. Its pure profit to the dealership. They just bleed all 4 brakes till new clean fluid starts coming out. Anyone can do that themselves with a buddy pumping the brake pedal.
