low fuel light indicator and a few questions
I did a search, but couldn't find anything.
When the low fuel light comes on, how much longer can you drive? I was out today and it came on, and I think it had ONE bar left on the readout for the gas. About how many miles do you have left when the light comes on, and how many when one bar is left?
On another note, what is the best what to take off from a dead stop. What do most of you rev to before you let clutch out?
Thanks!

As unsafe as it is, I had NO BARS LEFT before I finally hit the gas station, I only drove like that for about 2 miles to the gass station cause I had to (long trip). That is VERY BAD for the fuel pump, but hey, sometimes it happens.
As for what to let the clutch out at... try letting the clutch out untill it barely begins to move forward, and then slowly give it gas. Do this in one continuous motion. It takes a while to get used to, but this way, your not "slipping" your clutch on purpose.
These are just my opinions on going from a dead stop, I could be wrong... I'm sure someone will let me know about it if I am. Anyone else on my idea?

Typically, I refill the tank when the warning light comes on. This usually occurs when I have one bar illuminated on the gas guage.
It usually takes just over 10 gallons to fill it up. That means that there are approximately 3 gallons left in the tank at that point. Since I'm getting 25-28 mpg, I guess there's close to 75 miles left in the tank at that stage.
Being conservative and not seeing any humor in running out of gas, I'll keep filling up even with this much buffer handy.

Jason,
I posted this same question a couple of weeks ago titled, "If There's No Bars Left..."
You may want to scroll back a few pages to find the subject line. Lots of responses, but
basically we can get between 20-60 miles (depending on how you drive) with no bars
left. Since we have a 13 gallon tank, I've filled it up with no bars left and it came to about
10.5 gallons, so we've got about 2 and a half gallons left to play with.
As far as the clutch, (and I've driven sticks my entire life) truth to tell, I don't look at the
tach. I simply apply pressure to the gas first, while slowly letting out the clutch in one fluid
motion. From there on, it's smooth sailing.

hi...on the same kind of topic...
the other day, i was going somewhere 20 miles from my home, i started with 2 bars of gas and contemplated filling up on my way there or after the movie, but i assumed that i would have more than enough to make a 40 mile round trip. within 10 miles, i saw the indicator light up (still 2 bars) and then quickly down to one bar,...literally within 1-2 minutes, i was left with no bars. from prev. experience (and other people's posts), i knew that with no bars, i had at least 2 gallons left, but because the last single bar dimished so quickly, i was extremely worried (and totally lost in garden grove). when i did finally find a non-arco gas station, i filled up about 10 gallons... which did mean i had 2 gallons left....
has this happened to anybody else? the bar disappearing so quickly? it was literally within a min or two of first seeing the indicator...with 2 bars, and then one bar, and then nothing... i wasn't driving "hard"...just on the freeway going avg. 75-80mph and the rpm staying at 4k or a little above...
driving top down doesn't waste that much extra gas does it?
also, does anybody know what happens to the fuel indicator when you REALLY are low on fuel? on my accord, the low fuel indicator would initially flash...and then when you were really seriously low on fuel, the light wouldn't go away. in the s2000's case, the light remains initially...

leak!
I figured I had 50 cruising miles left, but NO, maybe 5-10 miles.I don't think the top down makes any difference, either. It's happened with the top up as well.
Now I just fill it up with 3 or 4 bars left, just to be safe.
