Hey guys,

As you may have seen, I snapped a 19mm sub-frame bolt when I was doing my clutch install. I highly suspect the threads are galled.

About 3-4 inches of the bolt are still let in the frame.



Are there any shops that you would recommend that can drill it out using a guide/ jig so they can drill as close to perfectly in the center as possible and then clean the threads with a tap?

I REALLY want to avoid having to cut the frame.

You can drill it out and rethread the hole. I never done it but i hear its not that hard.

I'd much rather pay a shop to do it since they can get the car up on a lift.
Also i just don't trust myself to drill it perfectly centered.

 

is there enough of the bolt sticking out to get a welder in there and weld another bolt on, heat it up with a torch and remove the old bolt?

 

there is none of the bolt sticking out it is about 1-2 inches into the frame

 

if the car wasn't on jackstands i'd do it up for ya.

 

I will be taking it down this weekend. AAA FTW I can flat bed it anywhere within 100 miles I want.
How would you drill it so it could be as close to center and as straight as possible? \

This is not something would let anyone do free hand.

I have absolutely NO experience with this kind of stuff. Also, do you have the tap needed to re-thread it?

A bolt puller might get the rest of what's in there out...so you wouldn't have to worry about it being the absolute straightest hole...and then just retap the hole.

I have a tap set if you guys decide to do this at home.

Possibly. I have the tap/die set, but not the bolt removal set. I'd say give it a try first - if it doesn't work, you can still just drill out the hole and tap it. Drilling out the hole and retapping it will require using a bolt a size or two up from the stock, so make sure you can find the right length bolt first...
