Default Improving HID system and increasing Lumens.

There are new HID kits that are 55Watts that produce higher lumen output instead of 35watts as they all used to be back in the day. All it is, is a Ballast from what I understood. I was searching around and stumbled across BMW forums with comparison and difference is most DEFINITELY there. I will link you guys up to pictures once I get home.

So what are your thoughts, for people who are downgrading to 6000k they can compensate with 55watt ballasts. Or if you are like me I would like to keep stock bulbs but run 55watt ballasts. Is this possible?

Some 35watt vs 55watt Pictures...

Good question. Waiting for answers as well. I just hope you're not one of the people that angle their bulbs higher than specified by Honda to make their lights appear "brighter". :-)

I personally have seen and dealt with the difference...

I had a customer with an '08 si. I retrofitted a set of FX35 bi-xenon projectors into his headlights using 5000K 55w HID bulbs/kit I used to carry.

I had him come over to pick up his car. As he was there I wanted to show him how powerful his output was compared to my AP1 S2K. I took a white sheet I used to aim/align cut-offs, and turned on both our lights on at the same time while our cars where side by side. His output was so powerful, that you could barely see my cut-off at all.

Needless to say, he and I were both VERY impressed!

I am sorry. I do not have any pictures of the cut-offs, but I do have some of the headlights if you want to see...

Here is a link of some pictures. Sorry for not posting all the pictures:

If need be, I can post, or send all of the pictures individually.

I guess what I am asking is if it's as simple as putting new Ballasts in? Or would new bulbs would have to follow. I am not looking to fry anything.

Yes you can put a 55watt ballast into our car and use the stock bulbs, the stock bulbs will take it, for how long, no clue you can also crack open your ballasts and modify the resistance on one of the resistors to put out more power. You can even hook up a pot. to it.

I would love to know the answer to this. I would also like it if we had an AP2 fog light option.

That would be stupid to do. Unless you are an electrical engineer, or even have a CLUE of what you're doing.. I would never suggest opening up and modifying any circuitry in your car. Feel free to, but don't run straight to the forums and make a 10page long post about how you fried your headlights.

If you wanted to go about doing this in a SAFER way, and probably a cheaper way, instead of blowing up your headlight and costing you hundreds of dollars in new parts...

Try buying yourself a 55w D2S kit .(remember, jumping up to 55w, you will increase the white value to the bulb color/temperature, so.. if you're currently running the factory 6k bulbs at 35w, and you use a 55w external aftermarket ballast, your factory 6k bulbs will look more like 4800-5000k... When purchasing the kit, it comes with bulbs, just pick a pair of 8k bulbs, they'd burn in close to our factory 6k bulbs, running on the 55w ballast)

When doing this, all you would need to do, would be to unplug your factory 35w ballast at the vehicle harness, jimmy yourself up an adapter to fit your newly purchased aftermarket 55w ballast, and boom.. there you go. Install the new bulbs your aftermarket HID/Xenon kit came with, and connect the ballast connector to the bulb, and you're in like flint..

Easier said than done.
