Eight babies
This will likely end up in politics, but I thought I'd start here. I'm not about to judge anyone who wants no kids, one kid, or lots of kids. It's not my place. However, this woman had six children, and had "assistance" to have more, and ended up with eight babies.
Should a doctor be taken to task for implanting so many embryos? Some have suggested there are guidelines which were ignored. The multiple births often result in babies who do not survive, or if they do, they are subject to physical issues, and of course, the mother's health is at risk as well, during the pregnancy and delivery.
So my question is should the medical community have stricter guidelines regarding the number of embryos that can be implanted?
Mother obsessed with children
The woman was offered "selective reduction" and declined. Let's keep the topic of selective reduction out of the discussion as that is too volatile and too personal...just give me your .02 on what you think the responsibility of the medical community should/should not be when it comes to implanting embryos.

"Friends and family also reported that Nadya Suleman worked as a psychiatric technician until she was injured on the job. Then she began having children and enrolled in school."
Sounds to me like she was on the wrong end of being a psychiatric technician.

If she paid for the procedure, then I'm fine with her having 8 more on top of the 6. If insurance paid...then I have to lay it at the insurance carrier's feet...they should have said "no". If public assistance was needed to add 8 more...then again, someone should have said "no".
From the MD's perspective, I think it would have been better to have tried to get this woman some counseling. I mean if a person were found living with 14 cats or 14 dogs in a 1550sq-ft house, someone would call social services!

MOOOOOoooooooo!!!
My original guess was that breast feeding is out.
later heard on the news discussion of surrogate wet nurses for the brood.
I'm relatively sure that somewhere she is someone's hero as well as someone else's fool.

Somewhere along the way, in the last few days I did read some info on suggested guidelines.
The woman's age, along with other factors generally would play a part in the decision as to how many embryos would be implanted. In a young woman, such as this mother, if I remember correctly, the guidelines called for two-three at the most.

Technically speaking -- and I believe that Jim is our resident etymologist, so he can feel free to correct me -- isn't this what's called a "litter"?
And I was under the impression that females of species of mammals that bear litters generally have enough teats to feed the offspring, live birth and milk being a characteristic of mammals.
So, aside from cultural and societal issues, I'd say this is decidedly un-natural. That, I believe, is the most positive thing I can think of. HPH
