Roof catch broke-mended it...
On Sunday one of my roof catches broke.
A bit of plastic that holds the catch closed broke off so I had to tie something around the whole catch to stop it coming open on the way home.
Did a search on here and found quite a few have broken the same way previously and in 2005 the Honda price was

Did a search on here and found quite a few have broken the same way previously and in 2005 the Honda price was 105+vat for a new one.
Tried a couple of breakers with no luck so had a go at repairing it.
I drilled a hole to take a S/S allen bolt which would take the place of the plastic part which catches over a bar to hold the catch closed.
The head of the bolt acts as a catch, slipping over the bar.
It works perfectly, and can be adjusted in and out to make a perfect fit.
See yellow arrow in the picture.
Making the catches adjustable:
The whole issue of wearing striker plates and the wind noise, leaking and rattling it causes could be irradiated if there was some adjustment available in the catch.
Looking at the catch it seemed possible to make it adjustable by slotting the catch fixings.
I used a Dremel to carefully elongate the mounting holes in the catch by 1/8th of an inch at the front.
I then refitted the catch using S/S allen bolts which grip the metal better for adjustment and are much easier to tighten or remove than the original crossheads.
See red arrow in picture.
Using the whole 1/8th the catch was too tight, moved back a 1/16th it's perfect.
I will be modifying the other catch next for a perfect fit
It is now possible to adjust the catches as the striker plates wear
