What synthetic transmission and differential fluids to use?
I'm at 10,000 miles and I'm getting my oil changed to synth. and was wondering if I should get the differential and transmission changed to synthetic too. What kinds are good? Where can I get them? Pros/Cons? TIA
Randy, are you familiar with a brand called Lubro Moly? They have an intersteing synthetic available for gears and i wanted to get yoru opinion on it. I have been using their synthetic motor oil on my bmw beater with great success and i thought this stuff might be worth looking at as well.
its their synthetic gear oil rated at 75w-90.

Haven't heard of them, but that doesn't mean anything at all. =)
I just got the tip the other day from Josh about the Swepco, and after talking with them, and reading many articles on Porche forums, it seems to be the way to go. One 2-quart jug is enough for two changes, and its not cheap - about 30-40 bucks, but seems to be worth it.
But lubro moly - google has many results: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc...jB&q=lubro+moly
sold right next to redline. =) so gotta be up there, eh?

auDD,
My recommendations are:
Mobil 1 10W-30 for the engine
Redline MT-90 for the transmission
Redline 75W-90 for the diff.
(Swepco is great, but pricey and hard to find locally.)
I'm in Arvada and can show you the Redline if you're at all interested in seeing the product before you buy it.

Jim - correct, I had to get it online. Or else, I can easily become a dealer of it, but not sure how many people would be interested. So, I'm trying it out myself first and then will ponder selling it out to the s2ki group.
Lots of differing impressions on the redline - some people love it, some people didn't think it was worth it. otherwise.. only 10 bucks for two quarts of Honda MTF. =)

UL suggested RL MT-90 for the tranny and Heavy ShockProof for the diff. I trust his judgement so I will take a look at trying them.
(I know regular RL MTL is too light for the tranny and have been using Honda MTL.. I have looked at ShockProof in the past and it looks to be the ultimate in protection).

I chose against shockproof in the diff for this reason - no friction modifiers for limited slip, so it should increase lock up of the Torsen diff. Haven't tried it in the S2000, though. The 75W-90 Gear oil does have the limited slip modifiers so it seems better suited for the street to me. May try the shockproof in the diff and see if lockup increases too much.
UL, have you noticed increased locking with shockproff in the diff? Chattering and scrubbing tires on tight turns?

Couple of questions/thoughts:
1. Why not MTL (vs MT 90) in the transmission? MTL = 10W30 = 75W/80W GL4 = factory spec honda MTL.
MT-90 = 75W90, heavier then factory spec
2. Why would you need friction modifiers in a Torsen gear diff? I thought that was an issue for clutch-plate style limited slips? And which shockproof?

I'm thinking lightweight, which coincidentally I have a quart of in my garage!

From their web site:
The Heavy can be rated as a 75W250 Gear Oil, but has the lower internal fluid friction of an SAE 75W90. The LightWeight can be rated as a 75W140 Gear Oil, but has the lower internal fluid friction of an SAE 30 motor oil. The SuperLight can be rated as a 70W90 Gear Oil, but has the lower internal fluid friction of an ATF.
