Wink March means Sebring

The 12 hours of Sebring race will be running this month on the 21st. It always get my heart pumping.

Here's a look back at a simpler time, 1957. If you grew up following sports car races you will recognize the legendary group of drivers mentioned in the report.

1957 Sebring race, parts 1, 2, and 3.

A couple years ago I had the thrill of lapping Sebring in a MGA on race day a few hours prior to the modern event.

In the 1957 video you hear about this car.

In Sept of 2004 I had another thrill at the Glen. I met the two MGA driver's mentioned in the video - David Ash and Gus Ehrman. Here they are getting back into the same car, now restored, for the first time in 47 years. That's David, who was known as Mr MG in the car world those days, with the big smile. Sadly he is no longer with us. He seemed surprised when I had him sign my MG coat but I'm glad I thought of it; it's special for me.

And to think I've ever met or watched live - fangio, shelby, moss, cunningham, hill and the other three are a maybe.... I just can't remember. It's hard to explain the joy these drivers and these cars have given me.

Don't forget the Daytona 200 this weekend. Sure it's two wheels and not four, but there are Hondas involved.
