Hopefully the Deschutes will be more fun that the White Salmon that I rafted last October. It was fun and all, but there were a lot of flat, boring places as well.

Can't wait for this trip!

stupid question, i have never been, but would like to consider it. but i dont know how to swim... is still fun/safe? or is it not recommended. my friend told me even if i did know how to swim i am at the mercy of the current anyways so i just float off? that doesnt sound reassuring

Not a stupid question. That was a question that was asked a lot when I went on the White Salmon. Basically all you want to do if you fall out of the boat is to point your feet down stream. You will have a life jacket and helmet on, those will keep you afloat and protect your head (at least the place I went to provided helmets, looking at the picture, it doesn't look like they provide helmets). As long as you go feet first, your legs will absorb the running into of the rocks.

Most of the time when you fall out the guide will be able to get you back into the boat in a matter of minutes. We had a guy go out last year, he was out and back in in less than 3 minutes. You will be instructed on how to position your self in the boat so that you won't fall out and the big thing to remember is there is a rope that goes around the raft, when you are out the first thing you do is reach for that rope and hold on.

Don't worry, you will be safe! Rafting is a blast!!!!
