i dont figure i would be revving the engine above 6000rpm at all times, will the car have enough punch to pull away fast?

This has been discussed about 500 times, but...

Shifting at ~5000 RPM I still out-accelerate 99% of other drivers. The car has plenty of power at any RPM for driving around at a normal pace.

I prefer it not have a huge amount of torque down low when I am driving around town. It drives like any other Honda when just motoring from here to there and that's not too bad!!

This question has been asked so many times that it ought to be in the FAQ section of the board.

The answer to your question is "NO". The S2000 has no torque at all. I have to push it to the freeway on-ramp each morning and then roll it down the ramp to get it going. But once it gets going, it will keep going, just don't ever stop. Have you ever seen an S2000 going around town? Probably not. If you ever see one in town, nine times out of ten it is stopped by the side of the road or in a parking lot. The reason is that it will not go anywhere because the engine is so weak. And God forbid if the S2000 is stuck in stop-and-go traffic, it just stalls dead holding up the rest of the traffic because there is not enough torque to get it started once it stops. Most times, the cars behind it just push the dead S2000 along to keep traffic moving.

I would say to everyone who are concerned about the "torque" issue with the S2000 to NOT get one, because you will not be happy with the car.

i dont understand why some poeple on this board have to act like a sarcastic asshole. why dont you grow up. people come here to seek answers, assuming the come in knowing nothing about the car and havent had a chance to test drive it.
asses like yourself do not help anyone out at all. just make trouble.

Driving the car normally below the point of VTEC engagement, the S2000 is still faster than 95% of the other cars out on the road today. True, on paper, the torque number looks weak, but in reality, it feels quite different.

speedlife, 'torque', 'enough punch', 'pull away fast' are all relative and subjective. You may want to at least mention what you currently drive or have driven, so that there would be a basis for comparison.

To some, a VW Golf 2.0 with Torque: 122ft-lbs. @ 2600 rpm is enough torque to get around town.

To some, a VW GTI VR6 with Torque: 195ft-lbs. @ 3200 rpm is enough torque to get around town.

To some, neither is enough.

Personally, I've owned a 00 GTI VR6, 98 Integra GSR, and I currently own 2002 S2k. Under 5000rpm, the S2k feels like an integra. If you are looking for GTI like torque, the s2k will be a disappointment.

If you have a carmax used car dealership near you, you may want to see if they have an s2k for you to test drive.

peace.
