Leather Institute(2002S2k)Seat Refinishing Review
Hey,
Took my seats to Sean (2002S2k) who works at the Leather Institute in Red Bank, NJ. Heres a before picture:

Sean took em out, cleaned them, stripped them, mixed the dye (looks a little lighter than before but actually matches the leather on the door panels perfectly now that they are clean). He was very professional and detailed and made sure that every little blemish and imperfection was covered before moving on. He then used multiple layers of top coat to seal the seats to make sure that they are protected and have a nice matte finish. Take a look at the after shots:

If your seats are discolored or fading I highly suggest going to see Sean, much cheaper than new seats or getting them reupholstered. He also touched up discoloration on one of the door panels and addressed scratches on my steering wheel.

This is Sean...Just a quick note on Tom's work.
The leather on his seats was structurally sound, what you see in terms of damage is in the finish and just starting to wear on the leather. He was lucky to get to when he did as waiting and wearing the leather further would cause the leather to thin on the bolster and weaken it over the long run. Being that he decided to get them refinished when he did, we were able to refinish the worn area and stop any major damage to the leather from occurring.
The cost of the service will vary from case to case as damage and repairs can take up a lot of time. In any case, we will continue to give great discounts to all s2ki members.
The standard cost to repair a seat can run anywhere from $65-295 depending on the wear/size/two-tone/etc. If it is a couple simple touchups you are on the lower end, if we are going to refinish everything it will be on the higher end.
In Tom's case we refinished both seats as there were marks and wear on many of the panels and it made the most sense to bring them back to a like-new condition. In addition the door panel was touched up as well as working on a scratch on the steering wheel.
If anyone would like an idea of the cost on their seats simply email me with a couple small pictures of them and I will get back to you shortly.
Thanks.
