Talking S2K Challenge Series #5 Results - 4/18/09

We now nearing the halfway point in the 2009 S2K Challenge Series and just wrapped up our 5th event at Buttonwillow Raceway. As the most popular track amongst S2K track junkies in SoCal, the turnaround was strong as expected.

The weather this time around was night and day compared to our first event at Buttonwillow. At S2K Challenge #1, drivers braved rain, thick fog, and 51 degree weather. Today, unseasonably warm weather (high of 92F) resulted in less-than-favorable hot and greasy conditions. Fastest lap times were set for most in the morning, and by the afternoon...it was slip/spin city.

Due to the crowded track conditions, Speedventures decided that participants

Here is my video:

It is crazy how big of a difference the APR GTC-200 wing makes out at Buttonwillow! I was at Buttonwillow with Redline in late March (same exact setup except RE-01R and no wing), and the car felt so twitchy and a handful to drive at the limit--the rear end would keep kicking out like a bad habit. Now, even with a bit of positive angle, the car is so planted and there is none of that twitchiness at the limit. I was thinking of buying a bumpsteer kit or AP2 subframe, but not anymore! I wonder if the twitchiness of the AP1 in high speed corners is due to aerodynamic lift causing toe-out? Is that possible?

I swapped wheels with my buddy during the last session so that I could run RE-01R for a fair comparison of the APR wing (all other variables kept equal except track temps were much hotter today), and in two laps, I was already 2.5 sec faster. I'm sure if I got more laps, I would have shaved even more time from last time I was at Buttonwillow without wing. BTW, I know someone who is selling one for a really good price.

Thank you for another awesome event!

Good job Nam!

Wing makes such a difference on the S2K...

Shameless plug: Please contact our S2K Challenge sponsors...they can hookup great pricing on wings for the S2K...

Sorry, I actually could not make. The parts finally came in for my work truck so I had to replace the clutch for the second time. They sent me the wrong throwout bearing and it ate through the pressure plate in a matter of like 30 miles.
I also took the opportunity to work on the s2k. Although I didn't get to far.....replacing the clutch in a 4WD Xterra is no joke!!!
