Long Beach SEMA/NOPI show, pictures, and the day
my wife and I met up with Prolene and his lovely wife this morning at their house. After driving to his place I understood why he went through 3 sets of tires in 15K miles
The road was perfect for our car, and you could leave it in 2nd just about the whole time.
Anyway, I snapped a lot of pictures, the least of which were the girls
because my wife and Prolene's wife were in attendance, I was, er, embarrased to take too many shots, especially when you feel the gaze of your wife just a couple of feet away when you're snapping away.
(laughing) But I thought HKS' girls were just fantastically typical of this type of show girls.

We saw TrojanHorse, 2X6Spds whom I've wanted to meet to get his dash kits for the past month but haven't been able to (sorry Phil!), MikeB from Comptech (you'll see him with his supercharged S2K), and Scott from Kings Motorsports. I didn't know that Scott was the president of Kings Motorsports, and I was very impressed with the fact that Scott, as the top manager, was working the floors with others - signs of great management leadership.
Anyway, Prolene and I were quite impressed with the Mugen carbon hardtop, and I was very impressed with the price. If I did have the dough I'd get that instead of the Honda one.
Some snippets of info: Comptech is building a CAI based on their supercharger's intake (can't wait). Injen is looking for someone to improve their intake design: I spoke with them and was rather blunt in pointing out the "hot air" effect, which of course they didn't appreciate very much. King Motorsport and their staff is as advertised: professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable - everything you can expect from a Mugen distributor. Mingster's company has decided to do a similar HKS CAI based on the picture that was posted a few days ago. Also, I'm going to develop a pipe replacement for the current intake piping for those not compfortable with swapping out the entire air box.
Ok, after the show we all went back to Prolene's place where we spent the rest of the afternoon installing: Denso Iridium plugs, Spoon TB, and we also changed the differential oil. Here're my conclusions:
1. If you can afford it, get the Spoon TB (preferrably from me, of course
). Prolene helped me tighten up the throttle cable, and now the engine responds like never before. Mid range is incredibly sharp, and the acceleration is drastically better in the low/mid range.
2. If you have >10K miles, GO AND GET YOUR DIFFERENTIAL OIL CHANGED!!! When my stock diff. oil came out, it was a horrific BLACK, SLIMY, THICK, GOOEY, and just plain TERRIBLE colored semi-liquid that drooled out. The Mobile 1 gear oil significantly reduced the noise (now the clutch vibrating noise is REALLY apparent) from behind the car.
3. Noises: I used some Shin-Etsu grease on the rubber pieces that spans the top where the glass also meets, the noises are GONE. Suggestions of using shrink tubing for the hook will be religiously followed.
My wife and I would like to thank Prolene and his wife, family, and the cute animals (Winston and Heidi especially) for having us as guests. Prolene is a fantastic host, and Prolene's wife is a fantastic hostess - she had to be, my wife didn't bother us once
(LOL) while we were in the garage.
Thank you Prolene.
