Default Tyre presures

Have recently visited center gravity Chris reminded me that I should be 'anal' about tyre presures. Its really important to get the best performance from the four tyres.

Now as i remember for a car on 17's the following should be used on the road

Dry/normal conditions - 32psi

In the wet - 34psi

As we have had abit of rain up here in the midlands i thought id go for 34psi today. Car feels great once again.

Just woundered how often others check their presures? mine were on 32psi about a week ago and before topping them up they were on 30psi all round.

If your not checking then its something i would recommend weekly. It funny because i didn't check the presures in my Audi for the 3 years that i had it!

HTH

So if it starts to rain you stop and pump up the tyres?

That what i thought when i found out.

Not very practical, but like i said, its given out rain so i went with it. Im sure by the time it dries up abit the presure will drop anyway.

Now for the sceince part: the increase in presure hep to prevent the inner part of the tyre flexing due to the water on the road. Maintaining more tyre on the road for more of the time.

Sounds very odd. Why more wall flex in the wet.
I would have thought the reverse is true?

Your right, but you havent understood the post right. The walls dont flex its the center of the tyre between the sidewall (eg. central 3/4). Like you say the walls dont flex. This traps the water reducing the contact patch and the tyre abiltiy to shift water in fooked.

Wow, sounds like a skyline!

Nitrogen filled tyres shouldn,t be effected by outside temperature in the same way air filled tyres do, keeping the at an effect presure irrespective of air temp.

I would be interested to know if the presure could reduce from day to day use, hitting bumps etc. If so then id be keeping an eye on presures.
