So when I put my key in, turn it to the ON position, and before I actually press the Start button, the CEL will stay lit for a few seconds, then blink slowly 5 times, then extinguishes. There is no CEL when driving. What is going on with my car...it has never done this before.

And no, it`s not the maintenance required light.

 

Have you tried hooking it up to a odb2 reader and see what it says?

You could also reset the ecu and see if it comes back.

 

I would hook up a scanner and pull the code

i know if it comes on while you're driving and it blinks turn the engine off immediately, this i've never heard of, could be something with the starting system, just a wild guess

OP...are you sure it's the CEL light that is flashing and not the maintenance light? The maintenance light just means it's time for an oil change.

Sorry my post irritated you when I'm trying to help you. Do you realize how many folks post in this forum and say that an issue is "absolutely" not "x, y or z" and when you finally help them get to the solution you find that they were dead wrong and it was 'x, y or z" after all?
