Luder94 is working on what sounds to be a very promising rough prototype for a leather or vinyl tonneau cover that will completely cover the cockpit, including the roof well. It will be tailored to fit over the roll bar hoops and seat backs and will anchor at several points to the dash (using the vents) and the door tops, but without having to add any hardware, drill any holes, or otherwise modify the car. It will also have a zipper up the middle so you can unzip just the driver side when you're driving without a passenger and don't want to put the top up. It will be just like the tonneau covers on the classic sports cars of a generation ago.

James and I are teaming up to help on the design and to take Luder94's template and turn it into a full leather prototype (one each in black and red, we hope), which we plan to unveil at Asheville (along with Luder94's replacment for the stock (and largely useless) roof well cover (which Honda mistakenly calls a tonneau cover). These are extremely exciting projects which address concerns and meet needs many of you have expressed.

This poll is to ascertan interest in the full-cockpit tonneau cover and to determine whether the price you're willing to pay will make it feasible to produce.

When you vote, please check the maximum price you'd be willing to pay for the type of cover described. If you don't have a serious interest in this accessory, please check the first option, "Wouldn't buy one at any price."

This is without a doubt a great thing if it can be pulled off. My old roadster's tonneau also used to function as a pseudo boot cover - the back was left attached and the unhooked front part was rolled up and stuffed behind the seats in the well during short trips. I used the thing quite a bit. It was convenient and effective to cover the cockpit without putting up the top. Hope this works out.

Rick, I voted yes in the $200-250 range, but if the cover is leather, I think it would have to cost more, which I would be willing to go for.

The way it affixes is of major concern to me, as it is difficult to envision it without some form of snap in place.

Rick,

Great idea. Do it right and do it in leather. Of course black would have to be one color option.

Rick,

I would be interested in a tonneau similar to what you are talking about, but I think leather will be expensive and not quite as versatile as other materials. I would like to see one with the same material se the convertable top or maybe wet suit material. That way, it could withstand a little sun and weather exposure.

I dont think leather will be the best material;the best material should be the one used fir the soft top (cloth top).
IMHO

Credit has to to members of this board who've kept pressing for something like this and Luder94, who's quite an inventive guy and is willing to take on these kinds of projects. I'm just an expeditor try to make it happen and get it into production if the prototype works.

Let's just hope it can be done, and at a reasonable price.

Rick and to all those who are interested,

Rick, even though I said I wouldn't work on this until Fri. morning, I went into the garage to look for attachment points (and ideas for those points) to the dasboard corners. Well as I was eyeing everything, I decided to run to Kinkos to get some large sheets of paper (I'm talking about 5 yards by 2 yards!!!). Plus it gave me a good chance to take the car out of the garage.

Instead of just eyeing the attachements, I ended up roughing out a sketch of the patterns. Then I took it one step further and cut out the patterns. The driver's side pattern and the boot cover pattern didn't fit right, so I re-sketched and re-cut. Well at about 4 in the morning I was done cutting and test fitting. I heard the birds singing and realized how late of a night I made, I promptly went to bed so that I could wake up by 7AM to get ready for work.

Needless to say, I'm dog tired, but hey...the patterns are done. I may do some fine tuning of the patterns, seeing that I haven't made any variations of patterns to accomodate for the top glove box to open up or for a wind screen "hole".

Rick, this weekend I will scope out the "hooks" and sew this paper pattern together. After installing, I will take pics and email them to you. From there I will mail you a set of un-assembled patterns.

Hi Guys,

I am not really interested in the tonneau cover (voted so), but the mentioned roof cover is exciting news (for me at least).

Before I joined this group, I had really no idea about the whole S2000 'scene' and these fantastic things going on with it!!!! I love it!!

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!
