Well friends, I'm sad to say I crashed my new S2000 last Saturday. I was heading south and entered an interstate on-ramp to go east. It was a cloverleaf, 270 degree on-ramp. Well, it snowed alot in Milwaukee Friday night, so I was taking it real slow. The on-ramp was wet in places, but seemed mostly dry in the lane I was in. I went aroung the curve at 25mph. (I usually take this curve at 40mph in my Audi.) After I safely got around the curve, I started to accelerate. Now I still haven't broken my car in, so I'm no were near VTEC land. I'm not sure if I hit a patch of ice or just a wet spot, but at about 40mph the back end kicked out to my left. I pushed the clutch in and started to countersteer. In hindsight, I probably should have backed off the accelerator instead of engaging the clutch, but I panicked. The tires started to grip and the car kicked back to the right. I tried to countersteer again, but now it was too late. The car started to spin and the front of the car hit the cement divider that separates the on-ramp from the interstate. The airbags deployed as the front end hit the divider and the car continued to spin. When the car stopped spinning I had done a complete 360.

I imediately got out of the car to assess the situation. I didn't have a scratch. No bruises. No headache. Nothing. The airbags and the seatbelt worked great. My car, on the other hand, was less than great. The front end washed banged up. The hood had a small buckle. Other than that, the rest of the car seemed fine. I think the car was drivable, but I had it towed anyway. Why take a chance.

I've talked to my insurance company and the mechanics at the local Honda shop and they both said the car was fixable. When I hit the wall I was still travelling forward with my car spinning, so the damage wasn't as bad as a head on collision would have been. The mechanics thought the airbags would be one of the more expensive things to replace. They also told me it might be a few weeks to get parts, but my car will be as good as new when they were done.

Here's the irony in this story. After driving home from work in the snow Friday I decide to buy snow tires asap. Saturday morning I called all the shops in Milwaukee, but none of them had the blizzaks in my size. I ordered the blizzaks from the shop near my house and was going to have them put on Monday night. About three hours after I ordered the tires, I crashed my car. Oh well...

I hope by reading my story, everyone will be a little more careful when the conditions are less than ideal. I'll post pics as soon as I get them up on my webserver.

I forgot the name of the place but there's a great Mexican restaurant on the near South-side of 16th and National (around that general area). They have margaritas to die for, they also have a 'ride the chili' nite....where you or your date can ride a mechanical chili pepper (kinda like a mechanical bull).

Area isn't that bad either.

As far as a WI owner's group, I met a lot of owners at the S2K Midwest Owner's Group meet at Road America. Look up a Bob Kantz, he's a fellow owner.

Also look into attending the National meet in Asheville, NC. There's a handful of us Midwest owners convoying it to NC. We have people coming from IL, WI, MN, IO, MO, KS, and possibly MI.

When I come back up to Mil-town (aka Brew city), I wouldn't mind trying to get some of the WI owners together and hitting Water St. or going to the Safehouse for some drinks. Goodness, I came there for college as a F.I.B. and left a cheesehead.

BTW,

BOKA, I'm glad to hear that you didn't get hurt, where'd your accident happen? Go over to the Honda Dealership on Capital St. (I forgot the dealership's name--Hobbs Honda I think). They have a couple of Honda Master Mechanics. . .there is one in particular who has specialty training in working with S2K's. He's an older, short, stocky looking mechanic. . .in fact the day I met him, he was covered in grease and looked like the ultimate grease-monkey.

Most of that damage looks cosmetic to me. Should be pretty straightforward to fix. Looks like you didn't tweak the frame.
