Default Fitting a new hood to an early S

My new hood arrived from Monsoon first thing Thursday morning. So I made a start on dismantling the S. I decided to follow the write-up from the FAQs, the main difference being that I didn't slash my old hood off to start with. My theory being that, yes ok, it would have been easier to dismantle everything with the old hood removed, but I still had to reinstall everything with the new hood in place. Replacement would be the reversal of removal. This isn't an in-depth step-by-step guide, just a few pics I took along the way. I had to ring Monsoon 2 or 3 times for assistance, I spoke with Michael the fitter & he was very helpful.

The old hood...

Removing half the interior...

As I was changing from a plastic to a glass rear screen, I had to rivet on an extra strap either side...

I threaded some plastic coated wire through the new hood where the tension wires need to be pulled through.

The rest of the install was much the same as in the FAQs.

The new hood fitted...

An early Birthday present for my S, who will be 10 years old on the 9th September.

I wanted to replace the hood myself, mainly because I like to have a go at these things and also to save the installation fee. If anyone wants to ask me any questions about the install, I would be only to pleased to help.

Now that I've done one, I doubt very much if I would do it again. I'd much rather pay Monsoon

Looks like you did an ace job, and I am impressed by the cleanliness of your car too. Great job.

One thing I forgot to mention. When I was speaking with Michael (Monsoon), he told me that on some of the Ss he'd fitted a new hood to, when you go to lower the hood, the bottom of the glass snags on the centre two nipples on the back of the roll hoops (the nipples that the tonneau fit on). I went to lower mine this morning, after keeping it closed for a few days, & I have the same problem. So I will have to remove them before I can open the hood properly. I don't mind, as I haven't used the tonneau in the four years I've owned the S. I wonder if it's just a problem on the older, plastic window converted Ss?

The nipples were only on the early cars.

Good job. I got so annoyed when I swapped mine. Seemed like they made bits fiddly just for the sake of it.

Yes, I believe it is. When I got mine fitted by Carhoodwarehouse, Vixen was on hand to remind them to remove them, and also to tell them how to do it, as they didn't know how to get to them.

Good work, by the way.

Looks fab - well done, I wouldn't have wanted to have a go

I know you said you don't use it but I still use the tonneau with just the 2 outer ones anyway - the newer cars only have the 2
