Berk HFC
This morning I got my S up on the lift and installed my new Berk High Flow Cat, the 63mm version. I am really happy with the part so I wanted to give you guys some info and Berk some free advertising.
I have a 2005 with 73,000 miles. About 5,000 miles ago I installed a Greddy TiC Dual exhaust and was pretty disappointed when I did before and after dynos. I lost about 8 hp across the entire curve. I don't really want to get to much into that (it was an odd case anyway with the testing happening at 7,500 feet).
The install was as easy as you can hope for. I put a ton of PB blaster on the bolts while the cat was still burning hot and went after 'em with wrenches and a copper mallet. It probably took about a half hour to get em free. I broke the bolts free and disconnected the O2 sensor. I left the sensor plugged in, but took off the last two clips on the lead to give me enough play to unscrew it. The new cat went in just fine. Hooked everything back up and checked for gaps.
Started it up and went for a quick test drive, and so far no check engine light. The ECU is relearning so I wont comment on power, but it FEELS great. I have no problem believing my 8 hp is back and more. It smells awful right now, but mostly like burning PB blaster and breaking in.
Last (and best), the sound is awesome! It made the exhaust a little louder all across and it has a bit more snarl, but it also moved the resonance down from 3,000 rpm to like 2,500. So I may scare a few more people at stop signs, but this is a great thing for the freeway! I really can't say how happy I am that this changed.
It is a real quality product and I recommend it fully. Can't say anythin' bout the their customer service, because it all worked the first time. I got it because I have some tree hugger in me and didn't want to go test pipe, but if you have a visual inspection, this thing DOES NOT LOOK STOCK. It is stainless and if i saw it, i would guess it was a resonated test pipe.
So, in short. Go get one, especially if you have a Greddy exhaust.
PS: base auto hobby shops are the shit
