Default Some very sad news...

If this offends please remove..... but seriously check your tire tread depths.....

A friend sent me some very sad news of an S2000 crash in SA. He drove past the scene... Not sure where he got the pictures.. the driver passed away at the scene.... My friend described the road as being almost dead straight and said it was raining heavy that day.

Story here...

.... I think the car is a pretty safe car having a big long bonnet to absorb a frontal impact however i have always thought especially opening up the boot how fragile the back of the car looks... When I spun my last S2000 i went into a kerb backwards.... The cabin is very very small as it is so its not easy for emergency services to help you out of there...

Horrible very sad.

You can see there is no tread left on the tyres, in fact the marker is flush with the face.

Once the current generation of 1,500Kg, 300 BHP "hot hatches" falls into the cheapskate market, I expect this sort of thing to become commonplace, unfortunately.

RIP

not withstanding the power factor in these cars, it does beg the question why they didn't just fit an open diff in them. LSD, especially the Torsen, can be more trouble than they're worth.

Drive carefully.

My first thought was the LSD too but then i noticed the tire tread.... would the lsd cause that to happen at lower engine revs? My friend said it was pissing down that day…
I think the s2000 is easy to drive in the wet.. ‘if’ you drive slowly and to the conditions.... all the power is up top.. I don't know about anyone else but i think the cars got great traction... the last time i had wheel spin was back in Feb on the snow day... I think you would have to be seriously on it for a LSD to spin you off.... in normal driving conditions....this to me looks like aquaplane due to low tire tread depths and could have happened to any car....

Don’t forget It’s winter here but in SA its summer so maybe he was putting off buying new tires... I know they've had a lot of rain recently. Also cape town has some very hilly roads so you would get a lot of run off across the roads....

Very very sad….
