Default Why you should change your AP1 Valve Retainers

All my intake retainers were cracked and some even close to be completely cracked through. I took my car to Todd Marcucci (Marcucci here on the boards) and in a few hours we got AP2 retainers put on and ready to go. If I had beat on the car for any extended period of time I may have dropped a valve .

I would recommend you contact Marcucci to replace your retainers if you have an AP1 as the AP1 valve retainers are known to crack and drop the valves and cotters into the motor. This tends to be one of the weak points of the AP1 generation. It is even more likely if you have over reved or even come close to over reving the motor.

I have posted pictures here below at the retainers. Note that they all looked fine from above when viewing them and the cotters/keepers were flush with the top. If we had not replaced them I would be buying a new motor in the coming weeks.

Thanks Todd!!!!

I had a few things worked on so I could not tell you the exact price. However PM Marcucci and he can give you a quote. I do know that he does stock the retainers and the keepers for them. So its a one stop shop! He is the only person besides myself that I trust to work on my car

Man, you're making me paranoid again. I'll pull my valve cover this weekend to check it out and make sure the valves are still within spec.

Still, glad to see you got that taken cared of...
