Default Changed engine, won't rev above 2k rpm

I have just had a mechanic replace the engine in my 2002 S2000. The replacement engine is from a UK 2005 S2000 (2.0l). The mechanic was able to get it started, but it refuses to rev above 2000 rpm. It's not a fuel cut, it just seems to not have enough power to do it. The mechanic can't figure out why, and none of his contacts can either.

Does anyone have any idea of any common causes for this behavior? Every wire as far as we know is connected. He claims that he checked the timing. A few things still haven't been attached, such as exhaust, intake, and the cooling system.

Would lack of a cooling system cause the computer to keep it from running? I talked to the mechanic today, and he says that there is a code for the knock sensor, so I need to buy a new one. But, I'm not convinced a knock sensor would cause this.

Here's a video of what the car is doing. When I'm filming the inside, it is at WOT.

No cooling system? as in no coolant in the engine?

Also, I saw some smoke coming out the throttle body.... sometimes that means intake valves sticking, but dun take my word for it.. a compression/leakdown test is in order i'd say.

Right, no coolant in the engine. Obviously we never ran it for longer than a minute...

Lack of coolant and temp sensor might make it run like shit.

1 minute is too much time to run without coolant.. that's a dangerous situation.....

Check your injectors are working. The can gum up if an engines sitting for a while and wont flow any fuel.

Try tickling them with 12v from the battery. Dont hold the power on them, just touch the wires on them and they should click. If the dont click they need a clean. ( ultrasonic bath)

Put coolant in it and then see what happens. Don't buy a knock sensor until you do that.

You have no idea what you're talking about. 1 minute isn't long enough for the t-stat to open which cycles the coolant in the engine. The first 5-10 mins of a cars startup up is spent warming up, not cooling off. This has nothing to do with his problem.

Which ECU are you running, your original one or the one from the donor car? Try another ECU and see if that helps. If not this definitely sounds like something ECU - sensor related. But if you're only throwing a code for a knock sensor, that may not be entirely the problem.

The ecu is the original. Everything is original, except the engine and intake manifold, and whatever was attached to the manifold.

My mechanic also insists that the engine is mechanically good, and it must be something with some sensors/ electrical. But, he said that he cannot fix it, and I need to take it elsewhere. I'm starting to think about throwing it on a trailer and towing it to the dealer (about an hour away). Unfortunately that will probably involve bending over much further than me or my wallet is capable of...
