Default brake pedal to the floor!

I have an 02 ap1 with 103,000 miles. less than a yr old dot 4 fluid. bforce pads and slotted rotors. drove less than 5 miles from home, every thing was fine, come up to a light and hit the brakes and the pedal goes to the floor. if i pump it the brakes start to work but pressure goes away and u have to keep pumping and use the ebrake to stop. got it home no traffic thank god. 2 days later after i ordered a new master cylinder, i get in the car and the brakes work normal in the drive way, changed the master ne ways but nervous it could happen again. abs light has came on once at 130mph but went away on its own. i searched the forums and found nothing. any 1 know of this happening? i'm so disappointed this happened to a honda, specially an S!

What's up, man.. Sounds like the problem should be taken care of now that you've changed the master cylinder. I don't think you should be worrying about the brakes going out anymore, but of course, just be careful for a while just in case it wasn't just the master cylinder. If there were no leaks anywhere else, it was probably just the master cylinder. Just always be prepared in case your brakes do fail in ANY vehicle. Always know how to manipulate the e-brake and the transmission to slow you down safely. Also, always imagine where you should steer into if you have no choice so you cause the least amount of damage.

UPDATE: Well it's been 3 weeks and my brakes are holding up fine. 2 trips to the canyons and all is well. Still can't believe this happened to me but I think I fixed it. Still getting the ABS light at speeds over 110mph once in a while. I don't have a scanner to pulled the codes yet, hope its just a sensor...

trip digits at around 11-12pm on the free way is easy in socal w/ no traffic and no need for brakes. Been awhile since this happened to me and the brake pedal issue is long gone and the abs light has happened twice in its since i have had the car. Hasn't happened lately. I know the car is tempermental since I have a low temp thermostat and the CEL once in a while will trip for that, or my air pump delete kit does the same, and my berk HFC randomly throws a CEL as well. So this random ABS light is kinda like that too.

You lack a bit of common sense my friend. Hopefully nothing bad happens but if it does I hope you weren't going triple digits when it does. And especially in public roads.

Sounds like the master cylinder, based on symptoms and that they went away when you replaced it would confirm it. They are wear parts and plenty of cars need to have them replaced north of 100,000 miles, regardless of manufacturer. Being surprised about this is like being surprised about wearing out your tires!

Sounds like you fixed the problem.... There is a valve and seal that goes bad inside the master cylinder. The valve bleeds off pressure, thats why you were able to get some pressure back by pumping up the brake pedal.

Master cylinders do wear out in time, so its not a quality issue with honda. I'm glad you were able to fix the problem and not have an accident. Make sure you bleed the brakes really well and make sure there is no air in the lines.
