Test Drove a Used 02 S2000 Today (MR2 Turbo Owner)
I set-up this test-drive about a week ago for this Saturday. I told the salesman that I wanted to test out a used one so that I could VTEC it. I had the car about 45 minutes and my findings are below:
S2000
Appearance: Beautiful!
Torque: Better than I expected, especially at low speeds.
Steering: Very precise and quick.
Handling: Very good without any upgrades (just new tires).
Ride: For a car that handles this well the ride is quite good.
Acceleration: Not as quick as I hoped. I thought the VTEC crossover would be more pronounced, but the salesman

S02's suck when cold. that may have been the problem if you were the first to take the car out that day. Otherwise, they are great street tires.
Yes, passenger weight seriously effects VTEC and accelleration. Some people say it handles better with a passenger. I think that is BS and people should stop trying to get free rides
I had an MR2 turbo as well. The S2000 should be your daily driver as it will save you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in gas. The gas gauge on my MR2 moved so fast you could almost watch it drop as you drive (I'm not kidding, it was bad). Then again, I had a TD06..
I miss my MR2 for sure, but the S2000 is (oddly) a more reasonable car. It has less storage, but much better reliability (being newer) and gas mileage with respectable performance.

I only have 510 miles, so I havn't had a chance to vtec the thing yet, but I have to agree that weight makes a big difference. I weight 290lbs, but when I had my friend who weighs 230lbs with me, the car felt a bit slower. Handling seemed to be about the same, although it felt a bit more stable during hard cornering when I had my passenger. He wants an S2000 now!

If I did my math correctly, then that would put you over the cargo limit for this car (manual says 400 lbs) by 120. I guess one way to avoid this problem would be to never give rides to anyone by removing the seat.
Or another way would be to only give rides to women who weigh 110 lbs or less. <------------------------ This would be my suggestion.

How many miles did this used S have on it also, I'm curious because acceleration is way different on an S with 5000 miles on it than an S with 10000+mile on it. In this 5000 mile+ period I noticed on my S, better response and more acceleration.
