Default My fuel filler runneth over

The other day, I went to fill my tank. After the automatic shut-off kicked in, I tried to add just a teeny bit more, to get up to the next highest exact tenth of a gallon. Call me anal retentive, but I keep statistics on fuel mileage, but prefer to use tenths of a gallon rather than write down the value in thousandths. I did not proceed further than another .05 of a gallon - that's about six ounces, or the size of my morning glass of orange juice - when, what should happen but the fuel filler is spewing all over the left rear fender. Naturally I stopped then, and removed the gas pump spout, which proceeded to shoot and dribble like an 85 year old guy with a bad prostate.
Warning: when the gas pump's automatic shut-off cuts in, the S2000's gas tank is F-U-L-L!! It is holding 13.200 gallons and will tolerate nary a drop more. Is this a 'special feature' of our S2K's?

if you want to call is special i guess. I find it annoying that I cant round off my price and I have to dig for change.

Lol

but true.

I have now just resigned myselfy to just using the pay at the pump feature so that I no longer have to try and round off my gas purchase

The S is the first car I've owned that I can't "top off" after the pump automatically shuts off. Heck, I can add another two gallons on my Explorer after the shut off. But not my S.

Be careful using the gas nozzle's auto-stop on this car. Here's a thread I started on Gasoline overflow a couple months ago.

I've overfilled the tank two or three times. My wife's 2000 VW Beetle does the same thing. It's hard to change habits. My minivan can take another gallon or two before it's really full.

This has happened to me a couple times too. For Christmas last year I picked up one of these - http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?L1..._2520&SKU=45533 which catches those drips and drops. It also reminds me to be careful when filling!

You mean you guys still go into the store to pay for gas? I won't even fuel up at a place that doesn't have pay-at-the-pump.

And by the way, that's why it says "DO NOT TOP OFF" in the manual .
