2010 S2K Challenge #8 - Buttonwillow - 9/26/10
Our eighth 2010 S2K Challenge event was held on September 26, 2010 at Buttonwillow Raceway.

Weather: HOT HOT HOT!!! Ironically, the first official week of Fall marked the hottest temperatures of the entire year. The high temperature of the day reached 97.5°F as many of the S2K Challenge participants enjoyed the shade with water-misters under the main paddock. Plenty of off-roading excursions were the result of the hot weather. A picture of Ben after his tire dipped into the dirt at Bus Stop

We experimented with a new Time trial format for the day. Essentially, sessions 2-5 counted toward your fast lap time of the day. However, if you did not get a clean lap or you were unhappy with your performance, you can opt to take a risk and try for a new fast lap time during a dedicated time trial session at the end of the day.

Stock Class

The Stock Class comprised a very exciting battle between Albert Gavieres and Doug Chan. In the end, Doug ousted Albert, with respective lap times of 2:09.1 and 2.01.7! Richard Seegman came in third, but had to leave earlier in the day due to.... extenuating circumstances...ahem.
1st Place received a full fluid swap (engine, tranny, diff) from Rising Star Motorsports and 2nd and 3rd place received Speedventures gift certificates.

Street Class

Competition in the Street Class was very exciting as the new Time Trial format provided an outlet for two key upsets. After session 5, the times ranked Ben Rigaud, Nam Yoon, and Fil Cracium as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. However, Nam Yoon and Konstantin Nikiforov opted to run the optional time trial at the end of the day as a last resort. As a result, Nam placed 1st with a 2:03.3, Ben placed 2nd with a 2:03.5, and Konstantin squeezed into 3rd with a 2:05.7. Good times!!!
1st Place received a free alignment from Evasive Motorsports and 2nd and 3rd place received Speedventures gift certificates.

Modified Class

Times in the Modified Class were BLAZING fast, with oustanding performance from Jim Tway, who clocked in a 1:58.4 for 1st in class! Coming in 2nd and 3rd were Mark Tsai and Mike Tsay with lap times of 1:59.5 and 1:59.8, respectively. Unfortunately, Mark ended his day early due to a broken lower control arm but his time still held for 2nd place for the day.
1st Place received a free valve adjustment from Tony Fuchs Racing and 2nd and 3rd place received Speedventures gift certificates.

Class Standings

Hope to see you all at our next event at Buttonwillow on October 23, 2010...cheers!

^^ Im still kicking myself....I hit a 2:01 in session 5 but didnt realize my time...I ended up lifting just before the finish and missed hitting 2:00.
I was struggling all day with my setup and I put it back to what it was and the car felt great again.
