You might try doing a search, as there's a lot of information already posted on this topic. I've heard of at least one meltdown on the track attributable to the Star (puck-style) clutch. Based on the homework I did, I've just orderd a Clutchmaster Stage 3 clutch from Bulletproof Automotive (thanks, Ben and Chris).

Hey Chris,
You do know that the breakage of the clutch disc is from Star stage 3 clutch.
I wasn't aware of it before I purchased it already.
I think under severe repeated usage it is possible that it can shatter at some point, but I should be ok since most of the driving is no where near severe or abusive.
It certainly grabs better than my prior Mugen/stock disc combo however I experience still some sort of slippage at high rpm say 7-9K rpm on 1st or 2nd gear.
When I shift from 1st to 2nd I sometimes feel it isn't grabbing hard like it suppose to. Maybe my problem lies in somewhere else? tranny? or differential?
Or maybe I just have too much HP even the stage 3 cannot handle.

Yes, I'd heard about the Star Stage 3 breakage -- TwoHoos clued me in. In part, that's why I went with the Clutchmaster Stage 3 product. If you can actually feel your clutch slipping and then grabbing, I can't imagine anything else (differential or tranny) causing the problem. Not that I really know all that much about these things, but what ELSE can slip and recover? What kind of power are you putting down (and what other mods have you done)?

cbender, please shoot me for not reading your post carefully.
I thought you still ordered the Star Clutch when in fact it was Clutchmaster, doh!

Sorry for the confusion.

I like how those guys bang their heads in perfect unison. How long do you think they practiced to get that right?

I got the Star Stage 2 disc and pressure plate. Much harder to modulate than stock, but sure as hell worth the trouble. Grabs SOOOO much better. I was having tranny warranty work and it only cost me about $36 for the dealer to install while he had the tranny out already.

jaye - I recommend the Star Stage II clutch kit for most applications. It just has great feel because the disk and pp were built to work together as opposed to other disks or pp's that are just beefier to replace the stockers.

I would AVOID getting the 6 puck ACT disk. its TOO MUCH grip for the drivetrain in the S. trust me, and if you want more info.. throw me a PM and I'll explain.
