Let's put seniors in jail and criminals in
This would correct two things in one motion:
Seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.
They would receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs, etc.
They would receive money instead of having to pay it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they would be helped instantly if they fell or needed assistance.
Bedding would be washed twice a week and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes.
All meals and snacks would be brought to them.
They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight/fitness room, spiritual counseling, a pool and education...and free admission to in-house concerts by nationally recognized entertainment artists.
Simple clothing - i.e., shoes, slippers, pj's - and legal aid would be free, upon request.
There would be private, secure rooms provided for all with an outdoor exercise yard complete with gardens.
Each senior would have a P.C., T.V., phone and radio in their room at no cost.
They would receive daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors to hear any complaints and the ACLU would fight for their rights and protection.
The guards would have a code of conduct to be strictly adhered to, with attorneys available, at no charge to protect the seniors and their families from abuse or neglect.
As for the criminals:
They would receive cold food.
They would be left alone and unsupervised.
They would receive showers once a week.
They would live in tiny rooms, for which they would have to pay $5,000 per month.
They would have no hope of ever getting out.
Sounds like justice to me!

That's such a horrible job. I feel bad for your friend. I'd rather be a garbage man for the rest of my life rather than be a CO in a prison. You may take a lot of shit but, at least you wouldn't be taking it in the butt. Benefits are probably better anyway, like coming home alive at the end of the day instead of in a body bag with 40 shank wounds.
Yeah. I have a hard time feeling sorry for a guy complaining about his roomate in the slammer. Maybe his bunkmates don't want to share a cell with a convicted criminal either, but they will just have to put up with it.
He has to pay several dollars for a snickers? I gotta pay more than that in taxes to house and feed his dumb ass.

I'm guessing you don't have an issue with that either?

I don't know what kind of prisons you deal with but my neighbor, who is currently in Federal prison, has to put up with all of the following:
- Guards who stole his tennis shoes then refuse to take a report because he is "lying"
- Shitty flip-flops that cost $80 from the commissary which he must wear because at times, due to a medical condition, his feet swell up so bad that they don't fit into tennis shoes
- A refusal to provide him with his psychiatric medication that was prescribed for anxiety prior to him being locked up
- Alternating between bunking with a person dying of extremely poorly treated brain cancer (my neighbor had to wake up in the middle of the night to wake up the guy to remind him to take his medication) and bunking with a person who doesn't speak english but is in there for murder and probably plans on murdering you too.
- Being held in an "administrative facility" for nearly a year and for more than 4 months after the trial (which only took a few weeks) which is a mixed population between high-risk and low-risk offenders with out adequate protection of the low risk prisoners from the high risk ones
- Getting beat up and even though he hasn't told me, quite probably rapped.
- Guards who steal our letters and books despite them being sent in accordance with the rules.
- Collect only phone calls that cost over a dollar per minute
- Multi-dollar snicker's bars, Cup O' Noodels, and other things you can get out of a civilian vending machine for a dollar.
- Three days of solitary confinement for "harrasing phone calls" when he attempted to contact his stock broker to get some funds to handle his case but the broker would not accept collect calls.

By the way, the point to take away from the stated cellmates is that there is both inadequate health care and inadequate protection of prisoners from each other.
And thanks for shitting alll over the Raptor's joke thread, buzzkill.
