Decription of the wreck is on WRAL.com - Does not look good. I happened to notice it on the TV tonight and saw the silver s2000 immediately--which was not conforting since I own a MY 2000 that looks just like it. I hope the owner pulls through.

A Raleigh man was injured in a Thursday morning wreck that closed southbound lanes of New Hope Road in eastern Raleigh for several hours.

Andrew Austin Palmer, 28, was trying to turn left from the U.S. Highway 264 Bypass exit ramp onto southbound New Hope Road shortly after 8 a.m. when his 2003 Honda was hit on the driver's side by a pickup, according to a police accident report.

Palmer's car spun through the intersection, hitting a traffic sign in the median, before coming to a rest on the opposite shoulder of the road, according to the accident report.

He was unresponsive at the scene and was taken to WakeMed. There was no word on his condition Thursday afternoon.

Michael Lorin DeGruy told officers that he was going to get onto U.S. 264 but decided against it because traffic was backed up. The light had changed to red when he drove through the intersection and hit Palmer's car, according to the accident report.

DeGruy, 36, of 1313 Hickory Hollow Lane in Raleigh, was charged with failure to stop for a red light, according to the report.

Southbound lanes of New Hope Road were closed between New Bern Avenue and U.S. 264.

A good day...takes only a second to be ruined. My prayers go out tonight to Andrew Palmer and those who love him.

Hey guys, found this thread via Google. I know Drew through one of the local car clubs. He was a good driver and has taken his car to the Dragon and VIR. We were talking tires last week at his birthday party.

Drew's in rough shape. He arrived at the hospital in a coma yesterday, and things will be touch and go for a few days. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
