The S2000's baby brothers?
I remember reading about a few new convertibles that Honda was thinking about building after the S2000 was approved. I think it would be neat to see one or more of these.
Honda to revive S-series...
"S660" headed for 2001 launch
On the back of a successful S2000 world launch, insiders inform that Honda is now setting its sights on production of a 660 cc sportscar in the image of those superb S600 and S800 coupes of yesteryear. Blueprinted to get a front-engine, rear-drive platform, its newly designed naturally aspirated 660 cc 4-cylinder will pump out around 100ps at close to 10,000rpm, such hi-tech wizardry borrowed from Honda's motorcycle division. To keep weight under 700kgs, S2000 construction methods will be implemented. Said to resemble the Suzuki Cappuccino in proportion and employ double wishbones, the "S660" is expected to hit the market in 2001 priced between 1.5 to 1.7 million yen.

2002 Honda S1300
After the run-away success of the S2000 convertible, which had its sights on the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z3-series, Honda is already planning to release a baby-brother version, in the spirit of the original S800.
The new roadster's mission is to tackle the ever-popular Mazda MX-5 Miata, Lotus Elise (good luck, Honda) and the MG. With front-wheel drive and exposed headlights, Honda will make cost savings and keep the price low to better compete with its rivals. As its name suggests, the engine capacity will be 1.3 litres.
This computer-enhanced spy shot shows heavy MG-influences in the front, Porsche Boxster-style rear deck and seat-safety-hoops, and Miata rear fenders.

CR-X caption roughly translated:
"Built on the Civic platform this 2 seat roadster will feature a detachable
hardtop and will be powered by a 4 cylinder motor."

It would be great for Honda to bring cars with those specs to market, but IMO those prototypes are UGLY! Is it just me or was the concept SSM a beautiful car (even more so than the S2000). I really liked the front headlight treatment and the rollbars. Looked more aggresive than the final version.
Actually, I kinda like the firts pic. I am not sure if that is the s660 or the s1300, but I like the clean, simple design. You KNOW they would sell allot of those cars to women and girls... (no offense, I just envision that car as having the "it's soo cute" appeal)
I think the S660 would be a great Miata fighter and I would also love to see a CRX replacement although I was hoping it would be the JVX concept but instead they came out with the Insight.
