Shutting off passenger airbag
I have a young son who is counting on riding with Daddy in his new Stook. (I can hear him going "Wheee" already!) However, I do not want to put him in the passenger seat with the airbag activated. Has anyone deactivated the passenger airbag? How? I've searched this topic in the archives and really haven't found any answers
Mr. Iowa,

click "airbags" link....eventually you will end up with some names of installers.
I got mine in oct 99 and have had it turned off since.
6 & 4 year olds like when the tach lights hit 9
(in a safe and controlled way of course)

I personally wouldn't trust myself..??? I have a little box that is installed in the passenger side footwell. I don't think any dealers will touch the airbag due to liability. Not sure about gambling on taking out the fuse, etc...???

Just FYI, I remember reading in the owners manual that children under a certain age and weight aren't suppose to be in the S2K. I think's it's just liability cerbage from the Honda lawyers. Whatever you decide to do, just be careful with your baby.
FYI. ALL of the child fatalities attributed to air bags involved unrestrained, improperly restrained, or out of position children. I personally feel very comfortable with my PROPERLY RESTRAINED five year old riding along. He is in a forward facing booster with the passenger seat in its full rearward position, and the passenger belt is ratcheted, tight, and locked (see owners manual).
NHTSA and HONDA understand that most of the motoring public is too ignorant, or too busy to follow multiple steps for safe front seat riding for kids. Therefore, "Just put the kids in the back seat" is quick and simple for to all understand.

Have to agree with the comments about feeling safe with a properly restrained child in the seat... the seat is all the way back and my admittedly tall 6 y/o fits the seatbelt very well. I initially was very concerned and then realized he fit the seatbelt w/o being strangled or overly loose. I guess I still wish Honda would have included it as standard with the car though.

This issue comes up often, and I am in agreement with the "propperly restrained" crowd, however, I don't want to cause my little girlie any harm at all. Does anyone know how far the passenger bag actually comes out? I've always been under the impression that it gets nowhere near the passenger if they are "propperly restrained". Any comments will be appreciated.

Passenger side air bags are larger then driver side airbags.
I must say that from my experience and training regarding vehicle safety from an insurance companies perspective, young children (under 80 pounds) are much safer sitting in the passenger seat of an S2000 with a deactivated air bag.
The tremendous force generated at deployment combined with the movement of the body upon impact can create an extremely dangerous situation for a young child.
I elected to have the passenger side air bag deactivated. It cost me $325.00. I now feel very comfortable having my 6.5 year old son riding shotgun.

I agree with "properly restrained", but..... how long can
you honestly keep a 6 year old sitting in a proper upright
condition with the back of their head touching the seat?
My son plays with stuff, drops stuff, leans down, etc...
AIRBAG OFF!!! Kids are kids, and they aren't going to stay
in one spot for very long no matter what the statisics say.
