Does our insurance cover us if the unfortunate happens at a track?

This question popped into my head a couple of days ago...

Many of us have been going and also participating in track time in whatever way (racing...1/4 miles...laps...etc...).

Does anyone know if insurance in general will cover your loses if the unexpected happens...in anyway. Are there limits, will they cover anything...

my approach is that i under no circumstances ask this question of insurance and if asked say "why no sir, i never take the car on the track."

i figure if i case the car on the track i'll get it moved to a road outside the track and call AAA from there (gotta remember to have someone else take the helmet et al home with them).

Most insurance companies require a police report before they'll pay a dime.

Geico (my insurance company) flat out will not cover mishaps on the track, timed or untimed. I went to the SCCA driving school at Thunderhill (not a timed event) and Geico told me that I would not be covered. I've heard that it is amazing how many accidents occur just outside the gates of Thunderhill

Another question along these lines is whether Honda will cover under warranty any damage that occurs at track events, autox, driving schools, etc.

I know of a guy who hit a guard rail at Watkins Glen in a driver education event. The insurance company covered it (I don't know how he presented it) but then immediately dropped him.

It might take more than that to convince some insurance companies though...

a friend of mine (and this is not insurance related) got his warranty denied on his 99 C5 hardtop because it was towed from SIR.

Now, yes he had been tracking the car, but they used the location, along with rubber build up in the fenderwell to deny him warranty...

I dont know if insurance companies can deny coverage based on rubber build up or not, but I wouldn't put it past them...
