You do not necessarily need to be a member to participate in events and gathering of a local club. Eligibility is left up to the organizers. It does mean you won't benefit from this insurance unless you are. As a member and participant you are covered for up to $10,000 in liability protection.
If you open a door and bonk someone in the head and they sue you, the insurance will cover up to $10,000. It will also cover the event organizer (rarely is only one person sued) up to $1 million in liability. If you hit someone with your car that's different, your auto policy covers that.
If you aren't a member you are on your own.
Your event organizer will have you sign a waiver which protects them from being sued by you as a participant.
So...
If you aren't a member and something happens at an event and you are sued for damages you have to rely on yourself to cover those damages. If you are a member you are covered for up to $10,000 of legal liability protection.
The local club and organizer is covered regardless.
C3,
Is this through K&K?? If so, I was previously told by them that a) they need 2 weeks notice to get us a certificate and b) that we need to send in the app even for casual drives with a handful of us. Can you clarify this? Thanks.

"Competive events, such as autocrosses, gymkhanas or rallies require pre-notification to K&K."
I asked them to clarify the definition od a rally and was told that this referred to competive rallie like poker runs, hill climbs and so forth. Ie. timed competive events.

Thanks cthree! I think this addresses a potential niggle which has been a concern for some of us with group drives and meets getting bigger. Great idea and another good reason to join s2ki.
