I'm posting this to follow up Gary's thread (Anybody Interested) on the same topic. It looks like a few of us are heading up to Austin to join in their drive to Fredericksberg. Here is their thread.

It WILL be an ALL-DAY drive and should end up at Fredericksberg @ 5pm. At that point, we will head back to Houston and might arrive close to 9pm.

For those that are interested, we'll be meeting at the McDonalds near Mason Rd/ I-10 @ 7:00am. I would like to leave for Austin @ 7:15am.

ok--i'm in houston--but i didn't drive --and i wanna go to the austin drive--if any of you wanna let me ride with you there--then i'll just have to find a san antonian to let me ride with them back to san antonio then it would be all good--

We are meeting at the Mc Donalds on I-10 and Mason road at 7:00am and will be departing for Austin at 7:15am.

We will be taking I-10 to either Hwy 71 or State Road 95. State Road 95 goes north to Smithville and is very hilly and curvy. At least is was last time.

why I-10, 290 is a faster route?

 

I've never gone on 290 to Austin, since I've always driven from either Alvin or Clear Lake. I usually make the trip from Katy to Austin in under 2 hours. I've always heard that there are too many stoplights going to Austin on 290.

Either way, we decided on meeting at the Mc Donalds last night at the meet, so I can't change it now.
