if the windshield frame is bent a little bit due to a rollover, does this automatically place the car as a total loss? i rolled my S about two weeks ago, and the body shop that's doing an estimate on my car hasn't yet gotten back to me. as far as i could tell, the extent of the damages were:

- two rims
- broken wheel hub
- front fenders
- hood
- front bumper/lip
- headlights
- radiator
- passenger side mirror
- passenger side of windshield frame slightly bent
- windshield cracked
- airbags deployed
- doors scratched
- all 4 tires out

if the windshield frame being bent isn't an automatic write off, what % of the value of the car is generally considered totalled?

thanks in advance for you input,

r.

To be considered totalled, the car's damages must equal or exceed 75% of the car's current value.

it was a fairly low speed incident. it was wet out, and i was at a stop light. i took off normally in 1st, but i usually give it a bit more throttle in 2nd. shifted into 2nd at 6k from first and thats where my troubles started. as soon as i gave it gas in 2nd the rpms climbed freely up to vtec. summer tires + overdue alignment = loss of traction + little fishtailing. well a little fishtailing turned into alot. my rear tires never regained traction until i was aimed about 30

I'm glad you are o.k.! As for the car, I'm sorry! I think Thoe99 is correct, 75% of the cars value.

body shop called earlier. $24k.

additional damages found after teardown:

- passenger frame:
.......main rail damage
.......rear floor needs to be replaced
- engine mounts broken
- frame surrounding engine mounts damaged

it's not looking good, guys. i should know by thursday whether elisa will ever see the road again. at first i wanted her to be totalled. i guess it's that initial reaction after an accident like that. but then MeccaJM came over to get some stuff from me, and I saw another S for the first time in 2 weeks, and all I wanted was to get her back. but knowing that the frame is all messed up, it's probably better that I let her go.

My 2000 Accord was totaled in Dec of 2000. The book value on the car was somewhere around $20,000. It had 20,000 miles on it. Damages came in around $17 or $18 thou. I do believe that 75% is correct.

Sorry to hear about your mishap, glad you are OK.

Personally, with the damages you listed I would hope it was totaled. A car is never the same after it's repaired. Good Luck.

$24k is about 75% of $33K (if my math is correct and if it's an '03). Sounds like it is totalled to me. Sorry guy, glad you're OK.

Some years back, my BMW 633CSi was caught in a hail storm. The insurance co totaled it because the damage exceeds 75% of the car value. Good luck with your claim.
