HONDA KEY

IS IT TRUE THAT INSIDE THE HONDA S2000 KEY THERE IS A SPECIAL CHIP AND THAT IF WE NEED TO MAKE AN EXTRA COPY WE CAN ONLY DO IT AT HONDA?

Pretty much... btw turn off the caps.

Yup, pretty much all new cars use an RFID chip embedded in the key to start the cars now. It's to prevent someone from making a copy of your key and stealing your car.

Exactly, if any other key (one that someone cuts) is used the car is imobilized from what I have read. Each car has a "smart igintion" where the key is recognized.

You can make copies all you want but they won't start the car without the chip. It not only needs a chip but the car needs to be programmed to accept that particular key.

Take care of those keys, the dealer wants an arm & a leg for replacements!

Darn the previous owner kept 1 of the keys for decoration..punk. What's a new key go for?

Chazmo Aug 29, 2008 05:56 AM

Yes, they can run around $100... Check with your closest dealer.

The normal Honda keys run for around $100 each

The one with the S2000 metal plate costs another 50 to 70 bucks more from my dealer.

On top of that, prepare to pay another hundred or so for the programming :( (very expensive for these things)

Be grateful you're not buying a Bugatti Veyron key. From what I read, those b!tches run up to $1,000+ just for the key itself. They charge more for programming them.
