Just Purchased, 01 AP1
 

Hey guys, new here, just bought this 01 with 132k miles last night, and these forums have been helpful when looking for info, so figured I would make and account now I have one! I got lucky, mine is pretty clean, driven by an older guy who couldn't really get in and out of it anymore. He kept it nice, interior good, no mechanical issues, no top leaks, etc. Even came with the original owner's manual and toolkit! its been a blast to drive and im excited to learn more about these as I drive it more. One question though, are aftermarket hardtops usually decent quality or hit or miss, and what are the best brands for the price? Not trying to spend 6k on an OEM hardtop lol

Forbidden is the most popular/ decent quality aftermarket hard top

I enjoy the relative speed and simplicity of the power roof. You can open or close at a stop light (or even a stop sign without anyone behind you). Instant top down fun! Can't do that with a hard top.
Driving in the winter/rainy season may be an attraction but out west where I am, it does not work. If I get caught in the rain on a road trip, top up. That's it.

OEM hard tops, the best, are going north of $6K. You will have to have space to store the thing and another set of paws to install and remove.

It’s crazy to think about, but thieves can make off with a mounted hardtop in as little as 30 seconds. I’ve never been a fan of hardtops on roadsters to begin with. But given the escalating values of hardtops these days (the OEM units in particular) combined with just how easy they are for thieves to grab, it seems like you’re just inviting even more trouble by mounting one on your car. As always, if you’re not out enjoying your S then it’s best to keep it locked up in your garage.
