New AP1 owner and some sad news
 

I was very happy to pick up a 2000 S2000 with only 40,000 miles about a month ago. Car was in great condition. It was like new inside and out. A couple of weeks later I put some nice wheels on it and couldn't be happier. Then I was slammed into on the freeway and to my shock the ins co determined it to be a total loss. I should find out tomorrow how much they are offering to give me for the car. I'm hoping they won't play games with me. I will post pics here because I just can't imagine that the extent of the damage is that extensive and get opinions on whether I should keep it as a salvage title or start looking for another S2000.

Buy it back!

It will be interesting to see how much the repair estimate is.

if you can buy it back cheap, get a door from a junk yard or a part out thread some body work on the quater panel.

if you can get some pics of the suspension, if the mounting points for a arms, shocks, ect are bent up real bad id pass. it will never drive the same.

if the buy back is cheap do it and part it out youll made alot of money. the car is mostly good imo

Better believe the insurance company WILL play games and WILL lowball you. Get prepped and have some of the HIGHEST priced S2000s available to get them to give you a decent amount for your car. I have had to deal with this same crap a couple of times. Lats issue I had they offered me less than half of the cheapest replacement car. 5 weeks later I managed to get the lowest car available list price. They should also give you $$ fopr tax, tag and title costs

It's going to depend on your insurance company whether they total it or not. Looks like you need a quarter panel and U/L control arms. If they total it I would buy it back and have it fixed. If you can fix the suspension yourself which is real easy the quarter panel replacement with paint shouldn't be more than 1500-2000.

Hate to see that. Hopefully it will all workout tho and you won't get screwed in the process!

I spoke with the adjuster and he said it is a total loss. He said estimate for repair is in excess of $13,000 due to extensive suspension and drivetrain damage. I'm expecting a call from someone to discuss the details of the settlement.

Hopefully they can provide a more detailed assessment of exactly what was damaged.

As far as value. All ads I come across are within the KBB values so they will have to honor that and reimburse me for the brand new wheels as well as what I just paid in DMV fees. I know they will low ball me so I'm prepared for battle.

This car was a rare find due to the low mileage and brand new top as well as near flawless interior and exterior. It's really sad to let it go. It will be very difficult to find something like that again.

I don't know what would be a good deal to buy it back. But if there is indeed extensive damage to "suspension and drivetrain" (I don't know exactly what they mean by this yet), I don't think I'll ever feel good about driving it even after repairs. I have no experience parting out a car and probably don't have the time to do that. Very sad to see the car go.

I'll keep you guys posted. maybe my experience will help someone going through the same process.

I can buy the car back for $7K but I don't think I will.

Sorry to hear about this, what a bummer so soon after getting it (and such phenomenal condition like you mentioned).

Wow, $7K? That is excessively high for buyback on that particular car - I'd also pass on buyback at that price!
