03 tuning question

ive read that the 03 s2000's are a little more leaned out in comparison to earlier models, but how much so? if i were to strap on a header, test pipe, intake and exhaust would an apexi safc be sufficient? and how unsafe would it be to drive the car for a short period of time before the tune? also im not sure if the apexi is the best route but it seems pretty popular..... thanks

You should be fine with those mods even without a tune.

And it is a VAFC you want for our car since we have VTEC. SAFC is better suited for non-VTEC cars.

personally, I'd pony up the extra cash and just get an Emanage Ultimate. btw cute girl in your avatar. :D

You should definitely invest in a Ultimate, 03's run leaner from factory and a full exhaust setup will lean it out quite a bit. Be on the safe side and get a ultimate so you can tune it(works good with FI as well). Also yes you can drive the car with that setup just wouldn't recomend you redline until you find out what your A/F is.

aaahhh i did forget about e-manage.... ive heard horror stories but i guess you have to take them with a grain of salt. i was looking on greddys page and saw that they offer quite a few extra peripherals for the e-manage ultimate, would i need any of these? they have a plug and play harness for s2000's all the way at the bottom of the list, i assume this would just make installation easier? thanks guys

I got my harness from boomslang. it was $200 and worked just fine.

also, you can find a used EMU+harness on these boards for $400~$500.

For those mods a vafc will be fine. Also save you a lot of money. I got my vafc with plug and play harness for $125 shipped. Used of course. Made some nice gains with it. Lowered vtec to 5600 rpm's and gained 10whp peak and almost 18whp over 8k rpms where it normally dips down. Definitely worth it to get it tuned. Should be fine without tuning it. Don't think it would lean things out TOO much but better safe than sorry and might as well to get some extra power out of your mods.
