Is the floor pan different or is there a sensor mounted below (above) the floor? Just curious. Both the Q300 and Tanabe Medalion fit fine on my '06 and a buddy's '02 but both are nominal 60 or 65mm exhausts.

Like i said, the floor pan is different. It's not a new thing, threads documenting it basically go back to 06 when certain exhausts started hitting. Some manufacturers have fixed the problem since then and made their exhausts 00-09 compliant, but others have not.

the different floor pan is also the reason why Cusco/Safety21/Mugen roll bars (any bar that attaches to the floor pan) needs to be modified to fit 06+

in the same thread, you can see in Rosario's pics where it hits. The corner of the passenger side floor pan sticks out more into the exhaust tunnel, which is where the exhaust can hit if not enough clearance was designed. This picture is supposedly of a J's Racing 60RS dual. So it should give you a better idea of what i mean by *some* 60mm might clear and why size of the piping matters. In this case a 60mm is already hitting so a 70mm would hit the tunnel horrendously. It all just depends on how much clearance was originally designed in the R&D phase. Some manufacturers that designed a lot of clearance got lucky and their exhaust naturally fits 00-09, but for many others, their exhausts hit and had to redesign an exhaust that would fit all years....or simply never wanted to spend the money to R&D another one.

Thanks. I'll look at my 2006 (just for grins) the next time I'm under there which will probably be the end of the season when the oil gets changed and she goes on the lift for the winter. I did note several exhausts were only advertised 2000 - 2005? but a telephone call assurred me they'd fit on my car which they both did.

You can see this in Matt Moreman's video (Obsessed Garage) when he took his CR to LHT and they were working to make his J's exhaust fit.

the J's racing exhausts won't fit 06+ because of the transmission tunnel. I called J's racing and also contacted J's racing NA and they confirmed they don't fit and won't make any other exhausts for anything 06+... on that note i currently have the Fuji Legalis R and it fits just fine on my 06.

There is other parts that don't fit because of the different floor like various roll bars and cages. You'd need a 06+ specific roll bar/cage otherwise it has to be modified. As most said I think the smaller tubing exhausts tend to be ok but larger piping can case issues.
