AP1 vs AP2 suspensions...different?
 

I have an 05 S2000. I am thinking about lowering it, but I'm looking at all these suspension kits that say they are for the AP1. Isn't AP1 the designation for the 00-03 S2000?

I know they changed the suspension geometry and suspension tuning. They also reinforced parts of the newer car. Can I use the suspension components designed for the AP1? Are there specific suspension components designed to take advantage of the newer cars specifications?

Any help from experts is appreciated!

I think the suspension struts are the same, the only thing thats different are the wishbones as far as I know!?

There are other things like the diff etc but with the suspension thats about it, unless anyone knows anything different.

I know for sure that the spring rates are different. I'm GUESSING that Honda matches their struts rebound/bound rates to their springs, but I could be wrong.

If the suspension geometry is different, then will a suspension set up designed for the AP1 be as effective on an AP2?

I think you need to be more specific to what suspension you are considering....and how is this "JDM tuning" ??

I'm talking about any suspension for sale that always says AP1 00+. AP1s only go up to '03, but 00+ implies for all years. They probably didn't update the information.

I'm interested in the SPOON suspensions. I like their philosophies on being streetable. I'm looking for a suspension set up that will be at least as good as stock in terms of comfort, but will still offer good handling, will let me lower the car, but not over-lower it to avoid hurting the roll-center. Do you know of any suspension kits that meet this criteria?

Also, as to why its in this forum? Mostly because I'm a newb and didn't know where else to put it. Can you move it to a forum where it is more appropriate and will hopefully get more hits/responses??

That's useful information to know - where did you come by it? Not saying you're wrong at all, its just that I should pass the info over to Nitron who designed my shocks as they will recommend different spring rates for MY04 cars on the basis of what you've said. Do you know what the spring rates are for the MY04+ cars?

I need to correct myself :rolleyes: all th wishbones are the same, they just have different part numbers on Hondas system but each part code maps to the same product!! why do people make hard work of simple things :confused:
So it must just be the actual shocks that are different(think because the 04> is slightly lower to accept the 17"s)

BMI also noted that the suspension geometry in the rear is optimized, and that there is additional bracing. I don't have the videos on hand to reference. But in the video, they compared the AP1 and the AP2. The new car sat better coming out of turns, allowing earlier acceleration. Add to that more power, and the new car was smoking the old one.


More SCC stuff:
Skid pad dropped from .92 to .89, but slalom speed increased by 1.2 MPH to 71.0 mph (don't know the slalom setup).

Rear tires increased from a 20mm stagger to a 30 mm stagger.
