Default AP2 suspension change to AP1 Suspension

So I figure with an AP2 surely there are some mods one could do in order to acheive a handling characteristic similar or the same as the AP1.

I am just curious what would needed to be changed to acheive this ap1 effect?

Larger front swaybar and KW v.3 coilovers.

definitely not a wise move, the improved Geometry of the AP2 suspension is worth it in every aspect.

it isn't softened as many people say, the geometry of the arms is changed slightly making in overall more stable and better balanced.

I've had both.

If you really want to do it stiffer sway bars and 290lb rear springs with 230 lb fronts. Though you are never going to get it excactly the same.

Just it thought - If it ain't broke don't fix it

I have also had both... DON"T DO IT! The AP1 suspension is good, but is very twitchy compared to AP2. At times, it is downright unnerving because it can feel unpredictable relative to AP2. Snap oversteer is a bitch. I know it communictes a bit more, but I can do without than kind of chatter. DON"T DO IT!

Yeah, Everyone says the AP2 suspension is softer than the AP1 and less communicative. But...... AP2 front springs are stiffer, it's just the rear springs that are softer than AP1. To me, stiffer front springs give more feedback through the steering wheel. Also, the steering ratio grew with the AP2 allowing for more precise steering inputs.

I have no intention of doing so. Simply a curious post for discussion

I want to plan my suspension and wheel mods with great care. I dont want to upset the balance of the car.

I owned an ap1, and now I have an ap2.

The ap2 feels more neutral to me and more driver friendly. I have coilovers, but I had them on my old ap1 before I sold it, and now their installed on the ap2.

I prefer the ap2 over the ap1.

i am considering Coil overs as my first suspension mod then X brace, Next wheels and tires.

My friend may have a hook up on D2 coil overs. They seem pretty decent and under a grand.

I wouldn't go with cheap coilovers...get something proven and recommended by the racers on this forum. KW Variant 3.

And, go for the swaybar before the x-brace. STBs and x-braces (front & rear) and nice to have, but won't give the handling bang for the buck that a good swaybar will give you.

I've driven a stock AP2 back to back with my AP1, which at the time only had a stiffer front sway bar. The difference was night and day. The stock AP2 does feel much softer and less responsive than the AP1. But, the AP1 is much less forgiving and twitchy...especially on a bumpy surface.

I've also autoxed and tracked an AP2 with KW v.3 and stiffer front sway bar...it gave all the responsiveness of an AP1 without the AP1 twitchiness. If you are looking for AP1 responsiveness, then those are the mods that can give it to you without sacraficing AP2 predictability.
