howto check if Mugen intake is authentic
Hi guys,
How can I check if a Mugen intake is the real deal? Are there markings (probably) and where should they be? Also, do they run their own brand of air filter or do they use somebody else's? thanks. |
It's a 2x2 weave, uses it's own filter (can get knn replacement one, color is different), comes with mounting hardware that mounts to crossmember and radiator support. Most fakes will not have the mounts that bolt on to radiator support.

Can Mugen intakes be installed/uninstalled without removing the bumper?
I know the air diverted has to be removed but mine is already removed. |

Mugen intake is dry carbon, it looks quite a bit different than wet carbon fake parts out there. You really need to see one in person to know it though, Mugen should have a proper decal on it, you can buy Mugen decals but not really like the one that comes on the authentic Mugen piece. Mugen uses an AFE filter with part number on it, you can't buy the filter from AFE so fake parts will have a non-AFE filter.

The dry carbon is the easiest way to tell the difference. All the reps I have seen have been wet carbon meaning it has a gloss coat to it and the weave is also a tighter weave pattern where the mugen is thicker. Not sure that makes sense. The real one has a metal bracket the reps have a carbon bracket. The real ones have holes drilled in the front to mount to the rad support he reps have indents but aren't drilled and don't include the hardware to mount to the rad support.

Mine came with a K&N filter. I'm guessing it depends on which generation of which intake you purchased.
