He doesn't have a test pipe because the J's is headerback.

The T1R makes more power, maybe that's part of it? I hope all of these setups aren't running lean because that's what I have. However, I hear massive backfire pretty much all the time in my car so I think I'm still running pretty rich.

Backfire wont necessarily mean you are running rich...

Nah it doesn't have to be b/c you're running rich -- the J's makes substantial gains and the difference between the two is negligable at best, maybe 2-3hp.

You should probably be around 225-230whp with those mods, conservatively speaking, so something's wrong.

It's not tuned yet. I have it leaned out a bit from 8000-9000 rpms I think 10 knots. The 00/01 ECU runs very rich so I doubt I'm hurting anything there. I also have my VTEC set to 5600.

I'm getting tuned very soon hopefully - it's just hard to find the time since I work 3 jobs and go to school full time

I think me running rich does have a lot to do with my backfiring though. I typically hear it when I tached up really high around 5000-7000 rpms when engine braking and right after I rev match my downshift.

Alejo when I dyno'd my car with the test pipe I was running a little lean (pre vtec)when we put the cat back on it got better, I dont think you will have much to worry about, I never had detonation issues and the plugs were always normal.

I would get some type of engine management just to get the full gains from your mods. My set up netted more HP with the Cat installed then with a test pipe do to having no air/fuel tuning

thanks john - I was hoping to stay away from tuning for a while. if i get a VAFC, is it a simple process of dialing in the correct mixture? or is it a process of dyno's and an expert's time to tune?

Sorry to de-rail the conversation, but are you referring to the T1R vs. J's Header, or the T1R vs. J's 70mm Titanium exhaust, OR Both?

I'm still looking for the best header/70mm Ti. exhaust combo for increased power throughout the VTEC range (for track use). Do you have a dyno comparison?

Thanks

Feel free to PM me if you don't want to take this OT.
