Excuse my ignorance, but is this to stiffen the damper?

 

It's to make the engine mounts more of a solid engine mount feel. Theory: If you can reduce the movement of the engine in the engine bay, then the power that would've been moving the engine will not be forced to the driveline and hopefully make it to the wheels instead of being wasted.

 

While we're on the subject, does anybody make solid engine/trans/diff mounts?
