Wow a Spoon block in the flesh! I'm very curious about these - would you be wiling to share what distributor you used to purchase it, build time, and any insight into Spoon's build process? From what I can tell they take apart an OEM engine and blueprint it / rebuild with tighter tolerances.

Spoon engines use hand selected new OEM parts that are paired together, and are then assembled by a Spoon technician to Spoon tolerances and specs. A couple examples of this are that 1. The rotating assembly is balanced to within .02g and 2. All blocks are assembled with 'A' pistons from Honda which are on the high end of the OEM bore tolerance. This gives the engine a slighty (like really slight) larger bore than most engines assembled by the OEM, and also gives an 11.8:1 compression ratio vs. 11.7:1 if it was assembled with a combination of A and non-A pistons.

Basically, you are paying for Spoon to sift through a sea of new OEM parts, pick the best ones, pair these together and then assemble them to their internal specification, using their pretty dang hard to beat level of expertise and attention to detail. It is the very best of what Honda offers on an OEM level, selected and assembled by one of the world's most knowledgeable Honda tuners.

Most people will not really care about all of this, but some will greatly appreciate the level of precision and detail that goes into building one of these. It just depends on what you put value in.

Logistically, this took me a few months to receive after ordering.

That’s awesome! Greatly appreciate the info.

Do you know if Spoon 2.0l engines will run on stock AP1 ECUs?

Also, mind PMing me with which merchant you worked with, if you don’t want to share that publicly? Curious on who’s reputable.

That implicitly says they only use a bare shortblock with AAAA stamped at the top of the block. That'd be the only way they could use A pistons for all cylinders.
(In contrast the F22C short block I got from Honda for my 2.4L build was stamped with ABBB. So I ordered AP2 pistons and rings: 1 "A" piston and 3 "B" pistons.)

I was surfing AFH's parts catalog and noticed the price of an OEM short block is now up to over $5k before shipping....great time to spend a little extra and pick up a Spoon block
