Clutch install

Hey guys, I need to replace the clutch in my s2k and I'm not sure if its possible to do myself with limited repair knowledge? or would I be better or taking it somewhere? I have replaced brake rotors and suspension before, how much harder is replacing the clutch?

Oh and to make it more interesting I have a SuperCharger on the car and I've heard you have to remove that to replace the clutch? If I do have to take is somewhere (which I think I probably will) have any local recommendations? I am in College Park MD.

if you don't have much knowledge you'll want to take it in...

it'll be complicated if you have a supercharger...

Thats what I was thinking. Any idea how much it normally costs or where to go? I'm just not sure if I want to take it to my normal mechanic with the supercharger

i'm not sure how much it'll cost but they will have to take the supercharger off before doing it.. so that's going to cost you more...

go to evolution autosports in chantilly..... they'll be able to install you supercharger properly when it's all done.. :)

The clutch install itself is easy, but to get to it you really need to lower the motor - that is the tough part.

You'll find a hookup job for around $500 - $700 and a retail job around $800+

New Clutch  Good stuff!

Thanks for the replies called evolution and they gave me a decent price. Does anyone here have an aftermarket flywheel? worth it?

get one... you might as well while you're doing the clutch install...just don't go to light...

what clutch setup are you going with?

Since you're running boost you definitely don't want to go too light on the flywheel, however you will still see benefit if you go to something middle of the road in terms of weight :)

Don't get a stock clutch setup, get an ACT

I installed the Hardtopguy kit (OEM friction disc, ACT pressure plate, and Comptech flyehweel) about 3 weeks ago. It was the first time I ever tried a clutch job. As long as you have all the tools necessary for the job and plenty of patience and time, it's not a difficult job. It seems to take forever, but I found it a great excuse to buy some new tools. ;)
