WASHINGTON -- Maryland drivers with overdue parking tickets in the District of Columbia are getting a bit of a break.
Mayor Vincent Gray on Wednesday announced a six-month amnesty program for drivers with older outstanding tickets.
During the amnesty period, they'll be able to pay the tickets without having to pay the extra penalty that would ordinarily be assessed.
Tickets issued before Jan. 1, 2010, qualify under the program. The program will begin on August 1, 2011, and continue through January 27, 2012. Open parking tickets, citations for moving violations and photo-enforcement tickets are included in the program.
The effort is intended to encourage drivers to pay off old tickets and clear their debts. D.C. officials expect to collect about $6.3 million in revenue during the amnesty program.
Gray said that, among local jurisdictions, drivers in Maryland owe the most to the District in unpaid tickets. The last amnesty program offered in the district was in 2001.

When I went to pay it (based on my tag only) I discovered I had another ticket tied to that Tag Number (no vin) but was from a Saturday in DC near K Street.
I never go to DC on Saturdays in my truck and in that area. but the ticket was 4 months old and I could even request a court date.
So I got new Tags from the MD DMV
